Marina Borghi, Art Dealer and Founder of Marina Borghi Fine Art

Art has been around me for as long as I can remember.

I grew up as the seventh of eight children in the Borghi family. My parents, Paul and Joan Borghi, built their lives around family and art. My father founded Borghi & Company, and my mother played an important role in the galleries and the business they built together.

Our childhood took us from New Jersey to different parts of the world. We lived in Spain, traveled throughout Europe and Africa, and grew up surrounded by paintings, artists, collectors and conversations about art.

At the time, I didn't think of any of this as extraordinary. It was simply our life.

I didn't know I was being educated in art. I didn't know I was developing an eye. I was simply watching.

Without realizing it, I was learning how to look.

My family gave me the foundation, but eventually I had to find my own eye. For me, art has never been about filling a wall or matching a room. I want a collection to feel collected, not decorated. I'm interested in the work that makes me stop, ask questions and want to understand the story behind it.

In 2006, I opened a gallery in Englewood, New Jersey, with my brother Michael and my sister Laura, which we operated for approximately ten years. Eventually that chapter ended, but art never really left me.

Today, Marina Borghi Fine Art represents my next chapter.

I believe art dealing is a creative practice. An artist creates the work. My role is to create the context in which that work can be discovered, understood and felt.

That experience doesn't have to exist only within four walls. Depending on the artist and the work, it may take shape through an exhibition, a private viewing, a digital experience, film, storytelling, public space or the streets of a city.

The format can change. The purpose doesn't.

I want people to understand what they're looking at, discover the artist behind the work and feel comfortable asking questions. Art is a language and a culture, and the way we introduce someone to it matters.

I believe the journey of discovering and acquiring art can be an art form in itself.
